Embrace Your Newsletter Service – Not Just SPAMmy Marketing

With all the GDPR confirmation emails flying about the internet, now we have a wonderful opportunity to re-think our marketing methods.

As I mentioned in last week’s post “What is the GDPR?”, for those who follow good practice when mailing their clients, think nurture and not cash cow, then changes will be fairly minor.

I want to address a couple of the biggest Fears people have surrounding GDRP.

First, the fear we will lose all members of our ‘hard won’ mailing list is real. Although maybe it shouldn’t be…

I for one want list members who joined with a happy heart, not someone tricked into joining.

The second fear that the EU Lawmakers  are ‘Coming for us’ to get hold of their 20 million euro fines…

The EU Isn’t Coming For You

Before we get into further details, let’s get some perspective on these regulations in general. As a small business entrepreneur, you should be aware that you are not the GDPR’s main “target”. GDPR is about the processing of people’s private data online. GDPR primarily aims to regulate businesses that do a lot of data processing – and especially businesses that make their money from selling or “exploiting” the data they collect about people.

Think: data harvesting giants like Facebook or Google.

The average entrepreneur and website owner does very little data harvesting or processing. If you have a website with some opt-in forms on it, the EU isn’t coming straight for your jugular.


Now we have those fears under control let’s look at how we can make the most of our new found, loyal fan base of list members.

I’m looking forward to really connecting with my community in a meaningful way.

That’s right not a cash cow, people just there to be drained of money for my benefit, but a real community of fellow yarn lovers.  Entrepreneurs who want to change their lives, their family’s lives, and impact their own customers in a positive way.

To make sure I am meeting their needs I will be making a commitment to message my mailing list twice a week.

Firstly with an update on all the new content available for them, including the weekly list of Open Submissions, interviews, training materials and new resources.

Secondly something of a more personal nature, learnings from my own life, invitations to special online events or challenges and information about new pattern releases or courses which have particular importance to me.

By providing such regular information, both teaching and sharing my personal story I aim to both nurture my community members and provide a real insight into what makes me tick and how I can best work with you to reach your own goals.

I already find it difficult to send emails which are just about asking for money so my new Email Service will be mainly focusing on providing added value to those who sign up.
